What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Consumers buy shares of a farm's harvest in advance by paying an agreed amount at the beginning of the growing season, either in one lump sum or in installments. The annual cost depends on the length of the harvest season and the variety and quantity of products provided.

By paying at the beginning of the season, CSA members share in the risk of production and relieve the farmer of much of the time needed for marketing.  This allows the farmer to concentrate on good land stewardship and growing high quality food.

In return for their membership fee, consumers receive a variety of freshly picked vegetables every week. Consumer-members eat healthy, sustainably produced food and have the satisfaction of knowing where it came from and how it was grown.

How does a Waite Family Farms CSA share work?

Each Monday you will receive an email with the week's produce availability.  You will then email what you want in your share. We package your customized box/bag and have it ready for you at pickup.  By having it ready for you we hope to save you time.  By having you pick up we also hope you will have a chance to ask questions and see where we farm.

Each year we grow a variety of vegetables.  This year we will be growing beets, carrots, spinach, lettuce, mixed salad greens, yellow squash, zucchini, tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapenos, green beans, potatoes, sweet corn, green onions, yellow and red onions, pumpkins, banana squash, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, cucumbers, radishes, watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, parsnips, shelling peas, broccoli and cabbage.  We also grow a variety of herbs: oregano, parsley, thyme, rosemary, chives, dill and sage.  Every year some things do better than expected and others do not do as well as expected. It is the nature of gardening.  We do not use and pesticides or herbicides.

In 2025, our season will likely start the first week of June and will run for 16-18 weeks through the end of September/first of October.  The dates depend on weather.  We anticipate a one week break when cool weather crops have finished producing but warm weather crops have not quite started to produce. This break will likely occur during July.  Pick-ups will be Tuesday afternoon/evening.  Because we are a small CSA we do have some flexibility, so please reach out to us if Tuesdays do not work for you. We will communicate with you through email and/or text to set up the best option for you.

A large share  is a choice of 6-8 items.  Each item will be approximately 4-6 servings.

A small share is a choice of 4-6 items.  Each item will be approximately 3-4 servings.
